Intermediate-mass black hole

  • Black Holes and Neutron Stars

An intermediate-mass black hole (IMBH) is a class of black hole with a mass from 100 to 100,000 solar masses. It is more massive than a stellar black hole and less massive than a supermassive black hole. Candidate IMBHs have been identified in the Milky Way and nearby galaxies using indirect observations, including gas cloud velocities and accretion disk spectra. The evidence supporting individual candidates varies in strength.
