A Kingston valve is a type of seacock fitted in the bottom plating of a ship. It connects the sea with the ship's piping and storage tanks. Under normal operating conditions, sea pressure keeps the valve closed. It can be opened from inside the ship to allow seawater into a tank. The mechanism was introduced in 1837 by the English engineer John Kingston, for whom it is named.
