Air Vice Marshal Sir Leonard Monk Isitt was a New Zealand military aviator and senior air force commander. He became the first New Zealander to serve as Chief of the Air Staff of the Royal New Zealand Air Force in 1943, holding the post until 1946. At the end of World War II, he signed the Japanese Instrument of Surrender for New Zealand. After retiring from the Air Force, he chaired New Zealand National Airways Corporation and Tasman Empire Airways.
