Maarten van Heemskerck, born Maerten Jacobsz van Veen, was a Dutch portrait and religious painter who spent most of his career in Haarlem. A pupil of Jan van Scorel, he adopted his teacher's Italian-influenced style. He lived in Italy from 1532 to 1536 and also produced many designs for engravers. He is especially known for depictions of the Wonders of the World.
