The Jacobin cuckoo, also called the pied cuckoo or pied crested cuckoo, is a bird in the cuckoo order found in Africa and Asia. It is partially migratory. In India, its arrival has been regarded as a sign of the monsoon rains. The bird has also been associated with the chātaka of Indian mythology and poetry, which is described as waiting for rain to quench its thirst.
