  • Weather Phenomena

A subtropical cyclone is a weather system with characteristics of both tropical and extratropical cyclones. It was officially recognized and titled by the National Hurricane Center in 1972. Such cyclones generally have wider wind fields than tropical cyclones, with strongest winds farther from the center and no fronts linked to the center. They can form over cooler seas than tropical cyclones and occur in several ocean basins.
