Epic
John Caldwell Calhoun was an American statesman and political theorist who served as the seventh vice president of the United States from 1825 to 1832. He began as a nationalist who supported a strong federal government and protective tariffs, but later advocated states' rights, nullification, and limited government. An outspoken defender of slavery, he also served as Secretary of War, Secretary of State, and a U.S. senator.
